GTS Novera is opening its seventh housing centre – the third in the last year

4. 8. 2010
Prague, 4th August 2010 – GTS Novera, the nationwide telecommunications operator, opened its seventh Czech data centre in Prague today, consolidating its leading position in this field. The company is responding to growing customer demand for housing and hosting services – after opening data centres in Brno last autumn and Ostrava this May, this is its third addition over the last year. Thus GTS Novera now operates seven data centres in the Czech Republic with a total area of more than 3500 m2. The latest data centre, which goes under the name of THP 24, is built on an area of 717 m2. Investment in its construction has come to CZK 60 million and even before it opened, customers had reserved 30% of capacity. For example, Tesco have already set up their operationally critical information systems at the new data centre.

"We are one of the largest providers in the data centre market in the Czech Republic and despite the difficult economic conditions within the economy and, thanks to the adaptation of our product portfolio to the requirements of our customers we are successfully continuing to grow within this sector. In order to maintain our position we have decided to make massive investments in our data centres. Hence over the last year we have opened our third new data centre in the Czech Republic and thus also strengthening the position of our parent group GTS, which is a prominent player in the data centre market throughout the Central and Eastern European region," said Stuart Evers, CEO of GTS Novera.

"For many years we have made use of GTS Novera’s operator services, and not just the housing services but their excellent network services too. These are absolutely crucial for our business, as any breakdown in our servers is instantly reflected directly in the services that we offer our clients. Because we are satisfied with the quality that GTS Novera provides us, we have also decided to use their newly opened data centre. GTS Novera has been very accommodating with all the requirements we have had – so that in the new data centre we will have a separate space designated just for our servers, with our own access and independent cameras monitoring our area non-stop," said Jan Trhoň, Head of IT service for Central Europe, Tesco Stores Czech Republic.

The latest THP 24 data centre is located in Prague 3 near Želivského Metro station at  Vinohradská 190, immediately adjacent to the data centre the existing data centre at the same location. It is built on 717 m2, while the area of the data hall alone comes to some 411 m2, holding up to 180 racks. The data centre is equipped with the latest technologies and equipment including a security card access system with a biometric fingerprint reader. GTS Novera now operates a total of seven data centres in the Czech Republic – three in Prague (on Vinohradská and U nákladového nádraží), two in Brno (on Veveří and Výstaviště) and two in Ostrava (on Na desátém a Koksární) with a total area of more than 3500 m2.

GTS Novera places great stress at all its data centres on physical security and operational accessibility. Hence they are all equipped with the latest physical security equipment including chip cards for data centre entry, fire security doors, special security keys, remote-supervision door locks, a reception service and of course lockable racks. Uninterrupted server connections, even in the event of electricity outages, are ensured by UPS and diesel units. Security is also provided by a central FM 200–based fire protection system and efficient air–conditioning systems monitor heat and humidity around the clock. Non–stop proactive supervision of all data centre technical components is also provided as a matter of course.

All data centres are connected directly to the GTS Novera backbone network. The fully backed-up optical network offers a speed between major nodes of N × 10 Gbit/s. International connectivity with a speed of 2 × 10 Gbit/s is provided within the GTS CE Group, of which GTS Novera is a member.
